Could the flap of a butterfly’s wings in Brazil eventually cause a tornado in Texas? Yes it could. All it takes is one. single. flap. It causes a tiny disturbance in the air, which sets off a domino effect of conditions interacting with other conditions, compounding over time until the cumulative effect is an entire labyrinth of dominoes that from afar, looks like a cloud and nothing at all like dominos.
Today, on the Philippines' 128th Independence Day, we set off a flap of a butterfly’s wings with Smitten World’s launch.
Smitten World exists to observe the systems and forces shaping the resources of our beautiful Philippine archipelago — the nickel in Palawan's soil, the fish disappearing from our seas, the water in our dams, the energy we depend on and don't yet fully control.
We send out the roundup of the week’s news weekly. This is neither a political newsletter, nor are we experts. We believe that understanding what our archipelago has been blessed with, what it could provide us with, but what is instead happening to it is the first step towards making better decisions for the betterment of our country.
